What are cookies
Cookies are small text files that a website stores on your browser or device when you visit. They let a site remember information between page loads and across visits — for example, that you have already dismissed a banner, or which preferences you have set. "Similar technologies" covers related mechanisms such as localStorage, sessionStorage, and pixel tags, which serve comparable purposes. In this policy we use the word "cookies" to refer to all of these.
Cookies can be first-party (set by capnode.io itself) or third-party (set by another domain whose service a page loads). They can also be session cookies, which are cleared when you close your browser, or persistent cookies, which remain until they expire or you delete them.
How we use them
The Capnode marketing website (capnode.io) is intentionally lightweight and uses a minimal set of cookies. We do not run advertising networks, social-media trackers, or cross-site behavioural profiling on this site, and we do not sell or share cookie-derived data with advertisers.
In practice we use cookies and similar technologies only to:
- keep the site functioning and secure (for example, to balance load and mitigate abuse);
- remember basic interface choices you make, such as dismissing a notice; and
- understand site usage in aggregate, if analytics is enabled (see the table below).
The Capnode product application — the authenticated dashboard you reach after deploying the agent — uses its own strictly necessary cookies to keep you signed in and to protect your session. Those are described where you log in, and are separate from the marketing-site cookies covered here.
Types of cookies
We group the cookies on this site into three categories.
Strictly necessary
Required for the site to load and operate securely. These cannot be switched off through our interface because the site would not work correctly without them. They do not store information that identifies you for marketing purposes.
Preferences
Remember choices you make so the experience is consistent on your next visit — for example, that you have already closed a banner. These are first-party and contain no tracking identifiers shared with third parties.
Analytics (if enabled)
Help us measure, in aggregate, which pages are useful so we can improve the site. Analytics is privacy-conscious and, where used, is configured to avoid building advertising profiles. If analytics is not enabled for your visit, no analytics cookie is set.
The table below describes the cookies by category, purpose, and typical lifetime. Exact names may vary as we update the site; we keep this categorisation accurate rather than listing every implementation-specific identifier.
| Name / category | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|
cap_session — Strictly necessary |
Maintains a secure, anonymous session so pages load correctly and abuse can be mitigated. | Session (cleared on browser close) |
cap_csrf — Strictly necessary |
Protects form submissions (such as the contact form) against cross-site request forgery. | Session |
cap_prefs — Preferences |
Remembers interface choices, e.g. that a notice or banner has been dismissed. | Up to 6 months |
cap_analytics — Analytics (if enabled) |
Records aggregate, de-identified page-usage metrics to help us improve the site. Set only when analytics is enabled. | Up to 12 months |
Managing cookies
You are always in control. Most browsers let you view the cookies a site has set, delete them, and block or limit future cookies. Because strictly necessary cookies are required for the site to function, blocking all cookies may stop parts of capnode.io from working as intended.
You can manage cookies directly in your browser's settings:
- Chrome: Settings → Privacy and security → Third-party cookies / Site data.
- Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data.
- Safari: Settings → Privacy → Manage Website Data.
- Edge: Settings → Cookies and site permissions → Manage and delete cookies and site data.
You can also use your browser's private or incognito mode, which clears cookies when the window is closed. If analytics is enabled, declining or clearing the analytics cookie does not affect your ability to use the site.
Do Not Track
Some browsers offer a "Do Not Track" (DNT) signal. There is no consistent industry standard for how sites must respond to DNT, so we do not rely on it as a control. Because the Capnode marketing site does not run advertising or cross-site tracking in the first place, there is little for a DNT signal to suppress here. Where applicable law recognises a browser-level opt-out signal (for example, Global Privacy Control under the CCPA), we honour it for the categories it governs.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time to reflect changes in the technologies we use or in applicable law. When we make a material change, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this page periodically. For broader information about how we handle personal data, including your rights under the GDPR/EEA and CCPA, see our Privacy Policy.
